Kandi Burruss wed Todd Tucker on April 4 and Bravo cameras were on hand to capture all the details from their special day as well as all the drama leading up to their I Do’s. And if you’ve been watching The Real Housewives of Atlanta Season 6 you know there will be no shortage of drama! From Mama Joyce’s outspoken objections to Todd’s hesitation to sign the prenup, we’re in for a bumpy ride. All’s well that ends well…right?
We’ll find out exactly what Kandi and Todd’s journey to the altar involved when The Real Housewives of Atlanta: Kandi’s Wedding premieres Sunday June 1 @ 8pm ET/PT!
Bravo also shared a first look preview to give us some hints about what’s to come:
Each episode follows Kandi and Todd as they plan a larger-than-life “Coming to America” themed wedding ceremony, signifying the couple’s initial introduction in Africa. The two are confident that they can pull off their dream wedding without the help of a wedding planner – and in only five short weeks. Adding to the pressure of a major time crunch is the reality that family drama is never far away. Kandi and Todd are hosting his mother at their house prior to the wedding and are faced with her opposition towards the outspoken Mama Joyce. Will there be a clashing of mother-in-laws and will Kandi find the strength to stand up to Mama Joyce, or will her powerful influence jeopardize the bride-to-be’s fairytale wedding? [Spoiler Alert!] Looks like they do make it down the aisle!
We don’t know yet how many episodes to expect from Kandi’s wedding special but it appears to be getting billing as a full series which leads me to believe we will expect more than the 3 episodes we saw from Tamra’s OC Wedding. But, we do know that the spinoff is being filmed over only the five weeks prior to the big day so it could be difficult to squeeze much more than a few episodes out of that much filming time–depending on how much drama goes down, I suppose!
It’s interesting that the official name for this wedding special will be The Real Housewives of Atlanta: Kandi’s Wedding. This is a first for Bravo–using the Housewives title in the name of the spinoff. Perhaps they are doing this to eliminate any speculation about a possible future spinoff series for Kandi. After watching Bethenny Frankel and Kim Zolciak get multi-season spinoffs after the success of their wedding specials but then hearing no talk (yet) of future seasons for Tamra Judge or NeNe Leakes after their weddings aired last year, viewers are left a little bit confused about what it means when a Housewife is granted a wedding spinoff. It seems that with this title choice Bravo is unequivocally saying that Kandi’s solo career is limited to just this wedding special. (She did already have a shot at her own show last year, if you recall the single-season of The Kandi Factory.) Also, with this title choice, Bravo gets the added benefit of capitalizing on RHOA’s success and is probably hoping to draw many of its viewers for Kandi’s special.
Will you be among the viewers who hop right over from The Real Housewives of Atlanta to Kandi’s Wedding? You know you’ll be looking to fill that Sunday night time slot! In the meantime, here’s some more photos from Kandi & Todd’s big day:
