The Real Housewives of Beverly Hills wrapped up Season 4 in an emotional three-part reunion which actually seemed to bring some degree of resolution to a very tumultuous season. And, while I’ll get more specific on the goings-down at the reunion in a future post, the big question at this point is typically: who will be returning next year? Almost since this season kicked off we’ve been hearing rumors about who will and won’t be making the cut for next season. So, I figured now was as good a time as any to lay out what the general consensus seems to be. I will, of course, continue to keep you updated during the off-season as we learn more. For now, the best we can do is speculate.
For Season 4, Bravo added two new faces to the RHOBH cast. After Adrienne Maloof made her unceremonious exit and viewers finally got their way with Taylor Armstrong demoted, producers were hoping to find replacements who would add just the right dynamic to the group. By now you are familiar with both newbies: Carlton Gebbia and Joyce Giraud. At first glance, both seemed to look the part: they are beautiful, glamorous and, above all…wealthy. Upon closer inspection (and 18 episodes later) both Carlton and Joyce seemed to lack a certain something when it came to rounding out this particular group of Housewives. The general feeling is that neither will be brought back for Season 5. Sources told TMZ, there’s a 95% chance Joyce Giraud and Carlton Gebbia won’t be back for Season 5 — they’re just not involved enough in the series’ story lines to justify their coveted spots in the cast. Apparently it became most obvious that Joyce and Carlton weren’t jiving during the reunion show taping — all the other women had great chemistry, while Joyce and Carlton were clearly outsiders.
Personally, I won’t be shedding any tears to see them go. Joyce is beautiful and seems super nice and even reasonable but she just can’t really seem to hold her own against the likes of Brandi Glanville, Yolanda Foster, or Lisa Vanderpump. Besides the negative attention she got from Brandi early on she didn’t have much of a storyline going on to add to the group dynamic. Carlton’s problem, on the other hand, was certainly not that she didn’t bring enough drama–on the contrary. My issue with Carlton is that she seemed, as Kyle so aptly put it, to always be looking for tits on an ant! There were at least 10 times this season watching Carlton when I was pulling my hair and screaming at the TV. WHY was she so upset about the Jewish star comment and so sensitive but also so in-your-face about being a Wiccan? WHY is it ok for her to call Kyle a bigot but not for Kyle to call her an anti-semite over that ridiculous incident? Labels are labels are labels!! WHY was she so offended that Joyce would discuss her husband’s penis-size over lunch but then tell the TV audience in her interview that her husband is hung like a donkey…not to mention showing the world her sex room and sex toys and hosting a Playboy-style pool party decorated with naked women???? ARRGHHH!!! I can’t wait to see how the rest of the reunion plays out to see if any of the women successfully call her out on her maddening, season-long hypocrisy.
Anywhoo…if the rumors are true and Joyce and Carlton are out then I’ll say goodbye and good riddance (especially to Carlton!!)
So, what about the rest of the cast? Well, rumors have also been circulating that Kim Richards was on the chopping block for next season. Apparently producers haven’t been too pleased with her storyline this year which focused largely on training her dog early on. Her sister, Kyle, however was reportedly not at all happy about Kim possibly getting the ax and may even have threatened to quit herself if Kim was not brought back. It seems to me that toward the end of the season Kim’s story got a little bit more compelling when we watched her send her daughter off to college. And, so far, she’s had plenty to say at the reunion…even tearfully telling Andy that RHOBH saved her life. How could you fire somebody after that!!?? I’d bet she sticks around for Season 5.
After Brandi Glanville’s antics this season some viewers have started a petition to get her booted from the show. “Brandi Glanville has made repetitive comments in the open media, social media, the actual television show and interviews which are distasteful and offensive to many groups of people. She jokes about racial stereotypes and child molestation among other very serious issues,” Lori Chase, who started the petition, writes. “Please remove Brandi Glanville from ‘The Real Housewives of Beverly Hills’ immediately.” As of today, the petition has 5,813 supporters. Compared that to the average 1,818,000 viewers who’ve tuned in for Season 4 and I’d be surprised to see her go.
Whoever does end up getting cut from the cast, it’s pretty likely that Bravo will be looking for some new additions to fill the gaps and change things up. A few names have been tossed around recently but there’s no newbies here! We’ve heard talk about Adrienne Maloof, Camille Grammar and Faye Resnick all being potentially re-cast for Season 5. So far, nothing concrete has emerged, however, so I’m definitely not convinced of anything just yet. You know I’ll be keeping my ear to the ground on these rumors, though!
And, finally, this is pretty old news but worth mentioning…there’s been talk of Real Housewives of Miami’s Joanna Krupa swapping coasts, and Housewives casts. However, it’s also been said that Bravo is not open to the idea of Joanna joining the RHOBH cast. Guess we’ll see!
Who would you like to see back next season? Are you happy with the current Real Housewives of Beverly Hills cast? Do any of the possible re-additions (or Joanna) sound interesting to you?
