Not to fear, Jersey fans! Despite recent talk that the Real Housewives of New Jersey franchise was in jeopardy of cancellation due to Teresa Giudice’ legal woes, it appears Season 6 is happening! In fact, filming will actually start earlier than expected because of Teresa’s issues. Ever since Teresa and Joe Giudice were indicted on 39 counts of fraud in late July, speculation has been that the show could not go on without her and that Bravo would prefer not to showcase such a gritty storyline. On Wednesday, the couple plead “not guilty” to all charges.
In case you’re somehow still unfamiliar with what’s gone down for Teresa and Joe, I’ll go ahead and summarize:
The Giudices were charged with 39 counts of fraud which included bank fraud, bankruptcy fraud, and conspiracy to commit mail and wire fraud. Essentially, they stand accused of exaggerating their income while applying for loans, then hiding their fortunes (including Teresa’s income from RHONJ) in a bankruptcy. On top of all that, Joe Giudice is accused of failing to file tax returns for 2004-2008.
Giuseppe “Joe” Giudice is an Italian citizen so he could face deportation if he is convicted.
Both Teresa and Joe could face up to 50 years in prison and millions of dollars worth of fines if found guilty.
Finding out all of this, my first thought was for their four little girls. What happens to them if mommy and daddy both go to federal prison?
Selfishly, my second thought was for the show! Could RHONJ survive without Teresa Giudice? Would Bravo even try?
According to Wetpaint, we’ve just gotten our answer. Not only will the show go on, but filming will start NEXT MONTH because producers want to catch what’s going on with Teresa and Joe. Their source goes on to say “If Teresa gets put under house arrest, she’ll shoot from home.” Well, no one can accuse Teresa Giudice of not being dedicated to her job!
So, yes, RHONJ fans, we’re pretty confident to confirm there will, indeed, be a 6th Season and that Teresa will be on it. From there, we’ll keep you posted!
