3/10 UPDATE: The Real Housewives of Orange County will premiere Monday, April 14 @ 9/8c!
It’s hard to believe that we’re gearing up for the ninth season of The Real Housewives of Orange County. Doesn’t it seem like only yesterday that Jo De La Rosa was dressing up as a sexy maid for then-fiance Slade Smiley? Or that Tamra Barney was throwing wine in a shocked Jeana Keough’s face? These days, Jo has been out of the Bravo picture for some time and now so is Slade, who’s most recent fiance, Gretchen Rossi, got the ax after last season. Tamra is now the happily-remarried Tamra Judge and Jeana recently hosted her daughter Kara’s wedding–off camera and hopefully without any wine spillage, intentional or otherwise.
We’ve come a long way since Bravo’s original leading ladies took the reality TV world by storm and kicked off a phenomenon that would span seven cities and, so far, eight years. Season 9 represents a big transition for The Real Housewives of Orange County. It’s rare, and risky, for any Housewives franchise to shift half of it’s cast in the space of one off-season but that’s exactly what’s happened behind those iconic gates this year. Alexis Bellino was handed her walking papers along with Gretchen, and last season’s popular new addition, Lydia McLaughlin opted out of returning for personal reasons. This left three pricey pairs of stilettos to fill and we can now confirm all three of the new women joining the RHOC cast:
Tamra let the cat out of the bag on this one some time ago. 49-year old Shannon is married to David Beador who owns a construction company. The couple reside in Newport Beach and have three children, including twins. Shannon is pictured here on the right:
Lizzie is in her early thirties, is married to real estate executive Christian Rovsek, has two young sons, is a former Miss Kentucky USA 2002, and runs a swimwear business: Sun Kitten Swimwear by Lizzie.
Danielle Gregorio (UPDATE 3/10: Danielle will be a “friend of the Housewives” on Season 9)
Danielle is reportedly connected to the group through her friendship with Heather Dubrow. She is a married mother of three, a party planner and a philanthropist behind Heels 2 Heal, an organization dedicated to positive life changes. She and her family reside in Villa Park.
So, now that we know who will be rounding out the Season 9 cast, we can get down to the business of figuring out what’s in store for the RHOC this season!
Vacation to Bali
The Real Housewives of Orange County are off to Bali via Hong Kong for what we’re betting is their annual Housewives “vacation” trip. All six of the Housewives appear in Hong Kong airport photos the ladies took to Twitter and Instagram to share:
The fact that the ladies are off on this big trip could mean that filming is nearing a close for Season 9. Often, the big Housewives trip airs toward the end of the season. And, since we’ve heard the ladies have been filming since about Thanksgiving, we’re betting they are, indeed, nearing the finish line.
Drama, drama, drama!
As can be expected from any Housewives city or season, The Real Housewives of Orange County are reportedly bringing plenty of drama and conflict for Season 9. Especially, we’ve been hearing about a lot of drama surrounding newbie Danielle Gregorio. RadarOnline is reporting that Danielle will go to almost any length for fame on the show. According to their unnamed source, “Danielle wants to be famous and is willing to go to great lengths to accomplish that. She said she is going to create sh*t to make the drama for the show.”
“She even plans on bringing her dad on the show for a paternity test, which makes no sense really because there’s no question about whether he’s her father or not. It’s just all a ploy to make drama and make herself a central character on the show. She doesn’t even care if she’s loved or hated.”
Radar is also reporting that Danielle and Tamra have butted heads during the Bali trip.
“Danielle signed on for this show knowing full well that she’d have to bring drama and make waves with the ladies in order to stay relevant,” says a source. “And it’s not going over well with the women who have been on the show for years. Tamra is really annoyed by everything Danielle does at this point and just feels like she sees right through her.”
“Tamra believes that Danielle is a fame whore,” the insider adds. “The trip overseas was already the breaking point for them. Tamra and Danielle are no longer following each other on Twitter or Instagram.”
I suppose after seeing countless past Housewives get canned (including two of her predecessors on RHOC) for lacking compelling storylines, I could see how a newbie might be paranoid about needing to drum up drama to ensure she has a relevant place in the cast. However, I sure hope she isn’t gearing up to be a shit starter just for the sake of it (think Kenya Moore), because viewers can always tell when someone is being fake. And, being interesting isn’t the same thing as fighting with everyone or making up fake issues. No one wants to watch a season where everyone is all smiles all the time and there aren’t any conflicts, but fake fights aren’t the solution. So fingers crossed that these “sources” are at least somewhat misguided about Danielle. Or, if Danielle is constantly “looking for tits on an ant” as Kyle Richards would say, props to Tamra for calling her out.
As you can see, RHOC Season 9 is shaping up to be one crazy ride! We’ll have to wait and see how three newbies, a trip to Bali and, of course, plenty of good old fashioned Housewives drama will play out this season! Still no word from Bravo about a Season 9 premiere date but we’ve done some research and have done our best to come up with a prediction of April 21. Read more about that here.
