Bravo premiered The Real Housewives of Beverly Hills & Vanderpump Rules together this season. I don’t mean back to back, I mean smooshed together as one two hour block of primetime. The seamless transition was provided by the convenient decision to have the SUR staffers cater Kyle’s Beverly Hills Chamber of Commerce party. Now, don’t get me wrong, I understand that these shows are not exactly spontaneous depictions of real-life but I have to say that this might just take the BH100 cake for producer-planned party fakeness. Not to say I didn’t enjoy the joint premiere and that I’m not super stoked for the rest of both seasons but, I mean…
And, I have to ask, how did Lisa Vanderpump get this deal worked out? I wonder how the rest of the ladies feel about sharing their premiere spotlight with her spinoff show. Whatever it takes to stay on TV, I guess.
First up were intros to this season’s Real Housewives of Beverly Hills. Yolanda is busy being a back-seat photographer/stylist for her daughter Gigi’s modeling career. Lisa’s been training hard for Dancing with the Stars and just about every woman commented in the premiere about how in shape she is. I guess all that hip thrusting with her hunky (and straight!) partner paid off! Kim is trying (and failing so far) to train her new puppy Kingsley. She looks great and that scene was super cute. Now that she’s making her own money, Brandi is in the market for a “fancier” house and vowing never to depend on a man financially again. And, last but not least, Kyle is keeping busier than she thought at her new store, aka her new 5,000 sqft closet. This is where things get scripted. Someone from the Beverly Hills Chamber of Commerce shows up in an effort to recruit Kyle. Apparently this means she also must host a cocktail party for all the Chamber members. Kyle asks Lisa to have SUR cater the event. And, we’re off to the races.
At the party, a couple of new faces show up. First to arrive are “Chamber of Commerce Members” Carlton Gebbia & hubby David Gebbia. David Gebbia is a businessman who owns the corporate investment firm Stockcross Financial Services which is, indeed, a member of the Beverly Hills Chamber of Commerce. However, the BH Chamber of Commerce has over 600 members…notice that not all of them were at Kyle’s party! Next newbies to show up are Joyce Giraud and hubby Michael Ohoven who, according to Bravo’s editors, are considering joining the Chamber of Commerce…which explains why they are attending this party, of course.
Yolanda shows up to the party after telling Brandi that she wouldn’t attend unless Kyle called her. I guess that happened? Either that or she realized she’s contractually obligated.
Kyle is being really weird with Lisa. She’s trying to convince Lisa that she should trust her over Yolanda but Lisa just doesn’t want to bother. Oh what a difference this season will make! Right now all the “camps” seem to be the same as when Season 3 wrapped but we know that’s not how it will end up. Anyways, Kyle is buddying up with Lisa at the party but then all her interview clips are her talking about all the “digs” that Lisa is taking at her.
Yolanda says Joyce has better hair than Kyle which isn’t very nice. Kyle does an impression of Yolanda’s accent which is pretty darn funny.
Carlton tells everyone about her weird kids names and everyone is, in my opinion, about as gracious as one could be when hearing that her kids are “Destiny” “Mystery” and “Cross”. Apparently, though, this was just a test and at least some people failed because Carlton’s rule is “don’t f–k with my childrens’ names”. She seems a little bit cray cray to me.
When the night is over and everyone heads home, Kyle asks the spoiled SUR servers to cleanup. All but Scheana are flabbergasted at this request but they manage to pack up and head out for a night on the town. AND, we’re in Vanderpump Rules land now.
Kristen is upset about her fight with Lisa from earlier in the night which got her sent home. She’s “a 30-year-old woman” and shouldn’t be treated like that. Um…you’re a server and Lisa is your boss, what does your age have to do with it? I suspect she’s just not happy about turning the big 3-0 recently, especially since her celebration was marred by Tom spending a weekend in Vegas cheating on her. Ouch.
Jax is still trying to woo Stassi and she’s back to not getting along with Scheana. Scheana has a joint birthday party with Pandora and they wear matching dresses courtesy of sugar mama Lisa. Later that night a “fight” breaks out and Scheana’s boyfriend ends up in tears. Who is that guy, by the way? I mean, I know he’s Scheana’s boyfriend (future fiance if previews aren’t misleading) but, really, get it together man!
At the end of the day Stassi leaves with kicked-out Katie and the rest of her crew as Scheana yells at her to come back from the restaurant balcony. Not a good look.
And, there we have it, Bravo Watchers! Are you excited for the new seasons of The Real Housewives of Beverly Hills and Vanderpump Rules after watching the premiere?
