Well, this is something that you don’t hear every day, because usually appearing on a Real Housewives show does nothing more than curse your current marriage, and leave you with a whole “I’m getting divorced,” storyline, but that doesn’t seem to be the case for Real Housewives of Orange County newcomer, Kelly Dodd.
Instead, she says that the show actually helped her marriage, even though she called him a narcissist and Hitler.
Kelly was able to look back on how she conducted herself this season towards her husband, and she says that it was “therapeutic,” and “more of a help in our marriage,” than a hinderance, as she learned that she should chill out and communicate better.
While she insists that referring to her husband as Hitler was nothing more than a joke, she understands that it got him upset:
He was disappointed. Nobody really wants to hear their spouse talking trash, but it made me look at myself and say, ‘I can’t do that. It’s not right.’
Michael feels the same way, saying that the show opened his eyes, as well:
[Michael] sees himself and knows what he has to work on and change.
Even though the show apparently did wonders for their marriage, Kelly may not be coming back:
I’m not quite sure, because of how I was treated and I don’t need to be treated that way.
She then went on to say that she isn’t perfect, but she thought that she signed up for something that would be more fun, rather than so serious all the time:
I was going on the show thinking it would be a lighthearted and more fun rather than in attack mode all the time. I’m not saying I’m perfect. I’ve said some things that weren’t appropriate, but you know…
Still, Kelly admits that the pros actually do outweigh the cons of being on the show:
I would say there’s more good that came out of it than bad. It was a great experience, a learning experience.
