After only 2 seasons Kathy Griffin’s talk show Kathy is getting canned. Responding to a tweet from Perez Hilton on Saturday (April 6), Kathy confirmed that what she had alluded to on stage the night before–that her talk show will be axed saying it was “Sad but tru”.
Kathy’s previous Bravo hit, My Life on the D-List, found relative ratings success through 6 seasons and helped to pioneer the now-pervasive celeb-reality TV model. Apparently, Kathy’s appeal just didn’t translate to the talk show platform.
But wait, not so fast… while her Bravo series may be reaching an early demise, things may still be looking up for Kathy Griffin. The timing of the cancellation news is noteworthy, coming only a few days after word broke that she and journalist Anderson Cooper shot a pilot in March for an hour-long project for CNN. And there’s some inter-network irony going on here too…Anderson Cooper’s day-time talk show Anderson Live got the can last fall (arguably) to make room for Bethenny Frankel’s project Bethenny. No word yet about whether CNN has officially picked up the new Kathy/Anderson show, which we’re guessing will be reminiscent of their yearly New Year’s Eve specials, but we’ll be interested to find out what’s next for this Bravo leading lady.
Are you sad to see Kathy go?
