In case anyone was worried that there might be some bad blood between Kathy and the network which recently cancelled her short-lived talk show, Kathy Griffin is back on the Bravo main stage for her 20th, yes, twentieth, comedy special! If that seems like a heckuvalot of comedy specials, you’re not wrong. 20, in fact, earns Kathy Griffin a Guinness World Record for “Most Stand-Up Specials By a Comedian”. The aptly named “Kathy Griffin: Record Breaker,” is airing Wednesday, December 18 at 8:00pm ET/PT. Before a sold-out audience at the iconic Majestic Theatre in San Antonio, Texas, Griffin returns to the stage to perform her 20th televised comedy special, a feat that no other comic, male or female, has ever achieved. And, hey, Bravo deserves at least a little credit, too. It turns out 18 of Kathy’s 20 comedy specials have aired on Bravo.
“You know when I first heard Britney Spears’ lyrics to ‘Work Bitch,’ I knew she was speaking directly to me. I’m just following her direction, as we all should,” Kathy said in a statement. “At the end of the day, I’m humbled by the honor and can’t wait to set the award next to my two Schmemmys and forthcoming Grammy Award!”
Kathy’s storytelling style of stand-up comedy is not for the faint of heart, but continues to draw loyal viewers demanding to be kept up-to-date on her hilarious take on any and all things controversial, political, or what she feels does or does not deserve its place in the pop culture lexicon. In her all new special, Griffin hilariously pulls back the curtain on what it’s like to perform on a gay cruise, dishes on her 93-year-old mother Maggie who says, “Molly Cyrus shouldn’t twerk against that nice Alan Thicke,” and suggests Texas Governor Rick Perry should foster Justin Bieber while both of them try to sort their lives out.
“I’m like the Yeezus of stand-up comedy! Boycott Louis Vuitton NOW! This latest stand-up special ‘Kathy Griffin: Record Breaker’ is the perfect bitch. This special is so hott, I wish I could dye its hair blonde and Instagram a picture of its ass. I set a record never before achieved by any other comedic god like myself. I AM A GOD. No wait…I AM GOD. Did you ask me if I was God? Because I just told you, I’M GOD,” jokes Griffin. She continues, “Blah, blah, blah…you get the picture. Look folks, I hope you laugh a lot at this special. I had a blast making it and I’m truly honored to have been inducted into the Guinness Book of World Records.”
Here are a couple of sneak peeks:
Are you a Kathy Griffin fan? Personally, I’m still reeling from the cancellation of My Life on the D-List in 2010…so I say bring on the comedy specials, Kathy!
