After lots of talk over the past couple of years about Bravo expanding its programming lineup to include scripted series, we’ve finally got an air date for when this will happen! Girlfriends’ Guide to Divorce will be Bravo’s first non-reality show and will mark an important milestone for the network. For a network that rules the reality roost, it will be a big test to see if Bravo’s reality audience sticks around and tunes in to watch a scripted series–and, ideally, whether the network can pickup new viewers this way as well. Bravo is entering new territory with their first-ever original scripted series Girlfriends’ Guide to Divorce. The show—starring Lisa Edelstein, Janeane Garofalo and Beau Garrett—will premiere December 2 at 10p ET/PT. But we’ve got a first look now!
Girlfriends’ Guide sure seems to hit the right notes to see Bravo’s audience transition into scripted TV. It’s a believable story from Bravo–a successful fortysomething divorcee re-learning how to be happy and fabulous. Lisa Edelstein (House) stars as Abby, a self-help author who needs some help of her own when she embarks on a divorce from her husband Jake (Paul Adelstein).Based on Vicki Iovine’s best-selling book series and co-produced by Marti Noxon (Buffy the Vampire Slayer, Mad Men), Girlfriends’ Guide follows Abby (Edelstein) as she copes with the separation. Abby finds herself relying more on her divorced friends than her single ones for guidance and also navigates the complicated world of dating in her 40s, raising two children, and staying on top of her career.
The cast of Girlfriends’ Guide features Janine Garofalo as Abby’s friend Lyla and Beau Garrett as Phoebe, the former model who’s still carrying a torch for her ex. The series will also feature Necar Zadegan, with guest appearances by Carrie Fisher and special cameos from Orange Is the New Black star Laverne Cox.
I know it’s a ways away still, but will you be watching on December 2?
